When Mummy Goes to Work is a board book beautifully written by Paul Schofield which I had the pleasure of illustrating. When Mummy Goes to Work is one of two books in a series, the other titled When Daddy Goes to Work which will be published by Templar Books on March 4th 2021.
"Emotive and gentle, When Mummy Goes to Work introduces the concept of work to babies and toddlers through rhyming text. It also offers parents the ideal talking point for conveying their own feelings about going to work and routine in a reassuring and nurturing manner. Beautiful artwork reminiscent of bestsellers Guess How Much I Love You and Dogger draws parallels between the activities of the child and parent throughout the day. This is the ideal gift book for anyone who is returning to work after the birth of a new child."
Below are some examples of early character design sketches, rough pencil sketches of illustrations and some final artwork created for the book.

“A warm and wonderful story, perfect for toddlers whose mum may have just gone back to work, When Mummy Goes to Work reassures its readers that the new routine will be OK, and that even when she’s away, Mum is always thinking of her little one. In this case, it’s the grandparents providing the childcare, but the story would work just as well for children at nursery.”-BookTrust
